Terminó la licenciatura en Biología en la UNAM (Facultad de Ciencias, Ciudad Universitaria) en 1982. Doctorado en ciencias por la Universidad de Tromso Noruega, (1989). Es investigadora en la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (Instituto de Investigaciones Oceanológicas Investigadora de tiempo completo Titular "C") desde 1990.
Investigadora Emérita de la UABC (2023). Es Investigadora Emérita del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores. Se dedica a la investigación sobre Nutrición y Fisiología de Organismos Acuáticos. Es autora de 135 artículos científicos y de acuerdo con el Scopus cuenta con un índice H=29. Ha dirigido más de 55 tesis en todos los niveles.
Recibió el premio estatal de ciencia y tecnología del estado de Baja California en el 2010. Dentro de la UABC obtuvo el Premio al mérito académico en 1998 dentro del área Ingeniería Tecnología; en el 2009 en el área de Ciencias Agropecuarias.
Fué PRESIDENTE de la Asociación Mexicana de Especialistas en Nutrición Animal durante el período 2010-2012.
En el 2017 obtuvo el premio a la Excelencia académica por parte de la Asociación Mexicana de Especialistas en Nutrición Animal (AMENA). Y en el 2019 la AMENA le dedicó el congreso en su nombre. En el 2022 recibió un reconocimiento de la World Aquaculture Society por la trayectoria académica.
Desde el 2015 a la fecha es Editora de la revista Aquaculture Journal de Elsevier (Nutrición en invertebrados).
Cuenta con un laboratorio piloto comercial de extrusión (LINDEAACUA) para hacer desarrollos de alimentos formulados, con equipo de EXTRUTECH. Este laboratorio es único en su tipo y no hay otro igual en América Latina.
Durante los últimos años, aparte de la investigación se ha dedicado a dar servicios a la industria y Universidades nacionales e internacionales.
Resume
Dr. Viana completed a degree in Biology at UNAM (Faculty of Sciences, University City) in 1982. She received her PhD in science from the University of Tromsø, Norway (1989). Today has a tenure as a researcher at the Autonomous University of Baja California (Institute of Oceanological Research) since 1990. In 2023, she was nominated as an Emeritus Researcher at UABC (2023), and in 2024, Emeritus for the National System of Researchers in Mexico. She is dedicated to research on the Nutrition and Physiology of Aquatic Organisms. Author of 135 scientific articles, and according to Scopus, she has an H index of 29. She has directed more than 55 theses at all levels. She received the state award for science and technology from Baja California in 2010. Within UABC, she obtained the Academic Merit Award in 1998 in the area of Engineering Technology and in 2009 in the area of Agricultural Sciences. She was PRESIDENT of the Mexican Association of Animal Nutrition Specialists from 2010-2012. 2017, she received the Academic Excellence Award from the Mexican Association of Animal Nutrition Specialists (AMENA). Moreover, in 2019, AMENA dedicated the congress in her name. In 2022, she received recognition from the World Aquaculture Society for her academic career. Since 2015, she has been Editor of Elsevier's Aquaculture Journal (Nutrition in Invertebrates).
Dr. Viana has a commercial pilot extrusion laboratory (LINDEAACUA) to develop formulated feeds with EXTRUTECH E325 equipment. This laboratory is unique in Latin America. During the last few years, apart from research, she has dedicated herself to providing services to the industry and national and international universities.
